It burns!!! - The history of the fire-fighting in Heidelberg (10230)
Thematic Tours
Description
The medieval Heidelberg and the Heidelberg Castle went up in flames in 1693. During the Palatinate War of Succession, the town was completely destroyed in the great town fire - the conflagration was terrible. It is therefore not surprising that there emanated important impulses for fire fighting from Heidelberg. In 1846, one of the oldest volunteer fire departments in Germany arised in Heidelberg - closely linked with the Heidelberg extinguishing agent manufacturer Carl Metz.
